VPK Program in Palm Harbor
At New Horizons – Omaha St, our VPK program in Palm Harbor provides a warm, engaging environment where children build the skills and confidence they need for a successful transition to kindergarten. Through early literacy, language development, math, hands-on learning, purposeful play, and caring teacher guidance, children strengthen important academic and social-emotional skills while developing independence and a love of learning. We proudly welcome VPK families from Palm Harbor, Dunedin, and nearby communities.

Learning Through Movement
Ms. Jan guides our VPK children through a fun balloon-and-hoop activity that brings learning and movement together. As children take turns tossing the balloon through the hoop, they develop hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, gross motor skills, listening skills, and turn-taking—all while building confidence and having fun with their classmates.
See Our VPK Curriculum in Action
From early literacy and writing to math, science, sensory exploration, and creative expression, our VPK classroom gives children meaningful opportunities to practice new skills through hands-on experiences.

Early Literacy & Language
Stories become meaningful learning experiences in our VPK classroom. Children engage with books, conversations, vocabulary, and hands-on activities that help strengthen comprehension, language development, phonological awareness, and an early love of reading. Creative activities connected to classroom stories help children make connections between what they hear, see, and create.

Early Math, Science & Problem-Solving
Early Writing & Fine Motor Development
Hands-on exploration introduces children to early math and science concepts in ways they can see and experience. Scooping, pouring, transferring, comparing, and observing how materials move encourages children to explore quantity, measurement, cause and effect, prediction, and problem-solving while developing concentration and coordination.
Pre-writing skills become exciting through sensory learning. Children practice forming letters, shapes, and lines using hands-on materials while strengthening the small muscles needed for writing. These playful experiences support fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, letter awareness, and confidence with early writing.
Social-Emotional Development & Kindergarten Readiness
Preparing for kindergarten is about more than academics. Our VPK program emphasizes social-emotional maturity through communication, cooperation, and following classroom routines. As children learn to solve problems, build confidence, and develop self-help skills, they create lasting friendships and grow in independence, ensuring they are ready for the transition to elementary school.
